As it relates to mental health and wellness, we might ask what designers can learn from clinicians to humanize technology design. In the previous century, we had psychological theories and big ideas to apply to the creation of therapies, the design of hospitals, and places of recovery. Today bio-physiology, neurology, and epigenetics are the focus of attention in understanding the mind, brain, and etiology of mental illness or personal growth. This shift from macro theories to micro-worlds and data has opened up an entirely new set of parameters for designing healing environments.
